Derbyshire and Derby City Councils together with Derby and Derbyshire Clinical Commissioning Group are pleased to announce that Action for Children are to deliver a service primarily targeted at improving the emotional health and wellbeing of children in care across Derbyshire and Derby from 1 September.
The Therapeutic Social Work Team at the Keep for Derby City and Horizons staff for Derbyshire County will be moving over with the service to Action for Children and will continue to provide a therapeutic service for both City and County’s looked After Children from Leopold Street in Derby & Queen Street in Chesterfield.
We wanted to reassure you that the service you and your child are currently engaged with will continue and will be automatically transferred.
Action for Children are in the process of recruiting a full team and aim to be fully operational by November 2020. The new service will be headed by a Children’s Services Manager.
Professionals from social care, health and education will be able to refer to the service along with children and families. The service will continue to support children and young people who they are currently working with and the aim is to accept new referrals from November and further communications will be issued about this closer to the time.
The team continue to work hard to support and provide services to children and young people, social workers, carers and other professionals to meet the needs of our looked after children. However, over the next few months the team will be unable to offer direct therapeutic work with children that has not already started.
If a therapeutic input cannot wait until the new service is available. In this situation there are the following services available NHS CYP Mental Health Leaflet
For further information please see https://derbyandderbyshireemotionalhealthandwellbeing.uk/
Action for Children will be consulting with children and young people to look at suggestions for a new name for the service, a name that means something to them and that can be easily identified with – look out for more on this later.
If this offer does not meet the therapeutic input needed then please inform Derby City / Derbyshire County Council Commissioning Manager on the contact details below who will then advise the allocated social worker for the child of the options available which may include a spot purchase arrangement from an external provider.
